Microsoft Names Dynamics AX 2012 at the Microsoft Dynamics AX Technical Conference, Details Trickle Out

Microsoft has been short on new public announcements so far this week at the Microsoft Dynamics AX Technical Conference, but one tidbit of some interest is the official name of AX "6" - now known to the world as Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.
This week's conference in Redmond sold out with 1000 partners and customers attending, according to Microsoft Dynamics ERP marketing director Guy Weismantel.
Last week, Microsoft announced some high level architectural updates of AX 2012 including an improved model-driven, layered architecture; pre-built interoperability with the Microsoft Application Platform including SQL Server 2008 R2, Visual Studio 2010, Office 2010, and SharePoint 2010; and pre-built industry-sepcific capabilities.
Kees Hertogh, director of product management for Dynamics AX, also clarified a few points in an interview with Dynamics AX Solution Architect Brandon George. Hertogh noted that some of the architectural features or AX 2012 are more like enhancements, like a better implementation of layers that will allow multiple ISV solutions to be installed in the same layer without issue. Hertogh also noted that the model-driven enhancements will enable better reuse of objects, like creating a web form based directly on an existing rich client form.
