Feature of the Day: Report Builder Integration

Report Builder Integration - Edit and View

Why this feature is cool!

The report builder integration gives  a seamless integration for editing and viewing a SQL Reporting Services (SRS) reports within the Microsoft Dynamics GP client making it easier to use. You no longer have to know where the report is stored.

 What does it look like?

Edit:  In the Metrics Detail window, an Edit button has been added to modify the list of the reports you have access to.  Selecting a report from the available metrics and choosing the edit button will launch Report Builder and automatically display the report selected.  You also have the option to edit the report from the Navigation list by selecting the Edit Report Action in the ribbon.

View:  The view button has been added to the ribbon for ease of running the report in native or SharePoint integrated mode. The homepage has also be updated to move the view option to the Using these modes allows for parameter values to be edited upon rendering the report.  This seamless integration removes the need to manually navigate to where the report is deployed.

Microsoft Reveals Some Details of Upcoming Dynamics CRM 2011 Benchmark Report

In last week's announcement of the Dynamics CRM 2011 On-Premise software release completion, Microsoft also mentioned, without many details, some new benchmark statistics.  They noted that they had scaled a single instance of Dynamics CRM 2011 to 150,000 concurrent users but withheld other details, pending an upcoming white paper on the tests.

Today the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Blog revealed a few more details of the Dynamics CRM 2011 benchmarking.  The team said that the new tests on Dynamics CRM 2011 did in fact reach the level of 150,000 concurrent users with an average response time of .40 seconds.

Some details were also shared on the hardware. According to the blog post: "[w]e used a Dell R910 server with Intel Nehalem-EX processors and Pliant Technology SSDs for our SQL box. The Dell R910 server had Intel Xeon 7560 with 4 socket, 8 core, with Hyper-Threading enabled, 2.27 GHz and 256GB RAM."

Panorama Consulting 2011 ERP Report

Yesterday, Panorama Consulting Group has published their new ERP report, and it was a really interesting read. It shows some interesting effects of economic recession on ERP industry, but it proves once again that ERP projects are risky, prone to budgeting and scheduling issues, and still chances to get reasonable benefits are roughly 50:50. As [...]

Five Tips for Deploying a Flash Report Based on Live Microsoft Dynamics GP Data

In my last discussion of a Flash Summary report, I explained the general benefits of building financial reports with SQL Server Reporting Services that always balance, always equal the real financial statements, and are available any time to executives on the company intranet.

In this article, I walk through key tips for building such a flash report yourself.  Keep in mind, this type of report is not a job for amateurs.  You should have a strong understanding of the code structure of Microsoft Dynamics GP, know how to back up code and data, and know how to utilize SSRS.

Dynamics AX - make a ‘display method’ field, render as a link on a report

Sorry, your entry can't be deleted right now. Please try again later.

Question:

How can one make a ‘display method’ field, render as a link on a Dynamics AX report?

Answer:

Note: the value needs to be stored in a table, it doesn’t matter if the table is not a datasource on the report query... also its better to write the display method on the table (rather than writing it on the report)

1. Create a Extended datatype for that field (after creating the edt, set the edt up on the table>field properties window)

2. Define a relation on the EDT ( this also governs the data a user sees when they click on this fields dropdown on a form).

3. on the table : set the form ref property ( this is the form you want to be opened when the user right click on the report field).

4. make sure that the display method is returning the EDT, rather than a primitive type (for example, display itemid myMethod() instead of display str myMethod() )

5. On the report control (the field in the report body).. this is the field where u have the method set to the display method... now set the table and field properties to the table/form you want opened when the user right clicks on it..
